In addition to the Assistance League of Tulsa’s signature program, Operation School Bell®, and the management of our resale store, Bargains Resale Shop, our chapter supports a number of other philanthropic programs, including:
Betty Bradstreet Assistance Fund
Funds from the Emma R. Showman Trust endowed the Betty Bradstreet Assistance Fund in 2003. The interest and dividends generated for the principal are awarded to fine arts teachers for local public school districts. Grants totaling $45,000 were awarded in 2015-2016.
Care and Protection of Children Program
Clothing and supplies are given to the Tulsa Advocates for the Protection of Children, a state-run facility for children awaiting foster care. The center prepares a wish list and we supply the requests that have included art materials, themed party supplies, birthday cards, and bathing suits for their summer swimming program.
Clothing, booster seats and portable Pac ‘N Plays are provided to Emergency Infant Services to assist families, children, and infants in need.
In partnership with Mental Health Association Oklahoma, Assistance League® of Tulsa supports the homeless and those most vulnerable with mental health issues. Our shared goal is to help prevent homelessness and assist those who are at high risk due to mental illness and other hardships.
We have provided “Welcome Baskets” with household items for new residents in housing complexes for low income individuals. Clothing, shoes, and accessories for the models of the Fashion and Talent Showcase were provided from Bargains Resale Shop. Assistance League® of Tulsa has provided salads and desserts for Thanksgiving Dinner for the clients of Mental Health Association Oklahoma as well as food for other events.
To support our community’s senior citizens we partner with LIFE Senior Services and host parties and attend event at their Adult Day Care Centers.
Care Baskets are filled for the Advantage Program Case Managers clients and each year we fill Christmas stockings for fixed income clients.
Community Outreach Programs
Provides a flexible, rapid-response strategy by which Assistance League® of Tulsa can respond to specific community needs that do not fit within currently existing programs and that can be addressed on a one-time only or short term basis.
Waste Not Program provides an expanded community service emphasis to oversee distribution of unusable/unsellable items donated to our purchased for use by Assistance League® of Tulsa Bargains Resale Shop or any other Assistance League of Tulsa program to other non-profit organizations. The Waste Not Program collaborates with The Day Center for the Homeless and John 3:16 Mission to meet essential needs of the most vulnerable in our community.
